ROBOTio · post from the SONY Port X event
YouTube Short — R.U.D.A. at the SONY Port X event
A humanoid robot as a symbol of the future alongside cutting-edge photography equipment. R.U.D.A. doesn't come across as a disruptive element, but as a logical complement to an innovative brand.
A magnet for photographers and journalists
When the room is full of photography and video professionals, a humanoid robot among them is the visually strongest element of the day. Guests automatically photograph and film it.
The event produces a 30–60s short, Reel or TikTok with high potential for organic reach across YouTube, IG and FB.
Visitors don't just take away information about the product, but also an experience connected to the humanoid. That is the difference that creates a memory.
At the moment a new product generation is launched, a robot alongside the product reinforces the perception of the brand as a technology leader.
A humanoid at a product event = a story the media are happy to publish. An earned media bonus on top of your own paid content.
We define the goal of the event, the key news (A7R VI, G Master 100–400), the guest profile and the scenario for the robot's interaction with the space.
The R.U.D.A. robot receives a wrap matching the Sony brand, and we program the basic gestures (handshake, waving, movement among guests).
An operator controls the robot's movement among photographers and journalists. R.U.D.A. interacts, shakes hands, gestures, and is available for every shot.
We harvest UGC from participants (photographers film it themselves), compile a YouTube Short, and hand over the material for Sony's social channels.
Why does a humanoid robot work better at a product event than traditional brand activation?
Photographers and journalists know within 5 seconds what is interesting content and what isn't. A humanoid robot is visually stronger than a booth, a gift pack or a presentation. It generates content that they themselves want to publish. Plus, thematically it fits perfectly with a technology brand like Sony.
How is a robot selected for a tech brand's product event?
For Sony we chose the Unitree G1 EDU (R.U.D.A.) — a bipedal humanoid, 130 cm, AI voice, facial expressions, smooth movement among people. A different format would suit a trade fair booth (Tesla Optimus positioning / Boston Dynamics Spot for industry). We always tailor the recommendation to the brand, audience and space.
How quickly can we deploy a robot for a product launch?
Standard is 4–6 weeks in advance (custom brand wrap, programming of interactions, logistics). For already proven formats we can manage 2 weeks. We handle last-minute bookings based on operator and robot availability.
What is included in the price of a solution for a product event?
Robot + operator (for the entire duration of the event), brand wrap, custom programming of gestures and scenario, transport within CZ/SK, technical support, photo + video from the event, follow-up content compilation for social media. The price depends on the length of the event, custom requirements and the destination.
At an exclusive event for Sony Czech Republic at Prague's Port X, selected photographers and journalists were introduced to the latest Sony photography products in an attractive setting by the Vltava. The event also featured the humanoid robot R.U.D.A., which moved freely among the guests, shook hands, gestured and created a strong technological moment right in the centre of the action.
The challenge — a product event as an experience, not just a presentation
Product events for journalists and photographers are often built around presenting specifications, testing equipment and expert commentary. For a premium brand like Sony, however, it is important that the event doesn't come across merely as a technical presentation, but as an experience the guests will remember. The goal was to create a striking moment that naturally fits the technological character of the Sony brand, engages photographers, journalists and professional guests, and generates attractive photo and video content for sharing.
The creative concept — the future presented by the future
The creative idea was simple and very powerful: when Sony presents its latest technological products, it can support the atmosphere of the event with a humanoid robot as a symbol of the future. The R.U.D.A. robot was not used as a classic host or a static exhibit. It was involved as a living technological element that moved freely among the guests and created unexpected interactions. A contrast and a harmony emerged at the same time — cutting-edge Sony photography equipment, a humanoid robot, photographers and journalists, and genuine human reactions all around.
The event took place at Port X in Prague-Holešovice, in an attractive setting by the Vltava. Selected photographers and journalists had the opportunity to try out the latest Sony photography products, including the new Sony Alpha A7R VI and the FE 100–400 mm F4.5 GM OSS G Master lens. The R.U.D.A. robot was deployed in the space so that it could move among the guests and create natural interactions. It was not a rigid performance in one spot — the value lay precisely in the fact that the robot acted as part of a living event environment.
The robot's role — five functions in one day
R.U.D.A. fulfilled five roles at once: 1) A surprising technological guest — its entrance immediately drew attention and created a strong first impression. 2) An interactive performer — it moved among the participants, greeted them, shook hands and gestured. 3) A natural magnet for photo/video — photographers and journalists automatically wanted to capture it. 4) A symbol of innovation — a visual metaphor of the future in a space where new photography products are being presented. 5) A content element for social media — material suitable for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and Facebook.
The result — a wow moment and viral content
Involving the R.U.D.A. robot helped Sony's product event gain a distinctive experiential and media dimension. The robot did not steal attention from the products, but expanded their technological context. A strong wow effect — R.U.D.A. immediately drew the guests' attention and created a moment people talked about. Natural interest from photographers and journalists — the robot was photogenic, unexpected and thematically close to the technological character of the event. Higher event memorability — guests didn't just take away information about the products, but also an experience connected to the robot. Attractive video content — a format suitable for YouTube Shorts was created. Connecting the brand with the future — Sony was presented in an environment where modern technology is not just shown, but literally moves among the guests.
Five reasons why the humanoid made an impact at the Sony event: 1) Strong visual contrast — photographers and journalists were testing new photography equipment, and into this environment stepped a humanoid robot, resulting in a visually strong and highly photogenic moment. 2) A natural link to a tech brand — robotics, AI and modern photography equipment belong to the same world of innovation, so R.U.D.A.'s presence didn't feel random. 3) Live interaction instead of a static attraction — R.U.D.A. moved among the guests, shook hands and gestured, and real reactions emerged. 4) Content for social media — a humanoid robot among journalists and photographers is exactly the type of visual that stops a viewer within the first seconds. 5) Transferability of the format — a similar concept can be used for other product presentations, launch events, technology conferences, trade fairs or brand experience campaigns.
Involving the humanoid robot in the event helped create the impression that the Sony brand is not only introducing new products, but communicating the future of visual technologies as a whole. R.U.D.A. supported an atmosphere of innovation, surprise and exclusivity. For the guests, it was a moment they could photograph, film and share. For the brand, it was another layer of experience that goes beyond an ordinary product presentation. The robot became a bridge between the product, the audience and the content.
